Nice question from Plinky : Favorite place in the world. My most fave place in the world is Home. My Home. My House. Where my family are. But, since Plinky asked for geographic region, so I decide to answer : Manimbora Island.
You might asked, where the hell it is. It’s somewhere in Makasar strait. Manimbora Island is part of Derawan Islands, East Kalimantan Province, Indonesia. This island is only 4 Ha and inhabited by 4 people whose lived as fishermen collecting fish. I visited this island in July 19,2008. I get those opportunity when I was doing my internship program in some plantation forest concessions.
Why I loved this island?? Their white sand, blue sea, wonderful sky,and the silence of their island. Manimbora is the cleanest beach I’ve ever been, number two is Alas Purwo. I could relax and breath non-polluted air there.
My adventure started early days there, we (my friends, several staff of the company, and several fishermen) fishing along the journey (noted that we were fishing using fishing thread only, we wasn’t used ordinary fishing equipments). Arrived at the island, we cooked the fish (please don’t imagine those barbecue stuff) for our lunch, and we ended the day by eating coconuts (one of the staff climb the coconut tree for us).
It was a wonderful day, one of the amazing day in my live. And Manimbora Island will always be my favorite place on earth.
